The nicest thing I can say about him is that exemplified the word "bloat" for me.

At one time, conservatives were men like Buckley: well-read, thoughtful, respectful, snarky in a collegial way. Now they're like Karl Rove: devious, brutal and arrogant.

Rest in peace, Bill.

I loved Robin Williams' spoof of Buckley on "Reality: What a Concept."

Real conservatism lost its voice when GHWB lost the election to Clinton. Buckley's voice was silenced with it. I always loved to watch the man pontificate, eyes bulging and eyebrows showing their independence of movement. He made Liberals refine their arguments and occasionally see their errors.

Meh. I always thought he was a self-important hypocritical windbag. A CLEVER self-important hypocritical windbag, but a self-important hypocritical windbag nevertheless.

But see, now you've gone and made me speak ill of the dead, all of you.
