Attention: Voters in Illinois District 5

Readers of my blog might remember this post I did about unions, and Bobby Kennedy. In it, I talk about meeting an amazing labor lawyer and author. Well, he's running for the #5 seat in Illinois, and if you can vote for him, you really should.

And I'm not the only one who thinks so. The very brilliant Joe Conason thinks so too.

I've heard of him--that was a great reason to go back and read your earlier post, too.

Given how clout heavy that district is, does he have any chance at all?

He has a chance if all my readers vote for him!!

Just kidding. He's running against State Reps. Feigenholtz and Fritchey, and Cty Com. Quigley, so yeah, not a chance in hell.

I saw that Geoghegan was on the ballot. Unfortunately for him, he's running against some pretty good people. Fritchey, who is my state rep, is probably my favorite; he has been particularly strong on education, and took some stands against the religious right here.

My ex (my son's mother) worked for both Quigley and Feigenholtz at different times-- she ran several of Feighenholtz' campaigns. Both are good, and I would be happy with them too. Quigley is one of the only people to question the Tax Increment Funding districts.

The turnout is expected to be really low, so anything goes.

JY: Yes, I heard the turnout is expected to be around 10%, which means that campaign organization will have a huge effect on the outcome. With Daley keeping out of it, it would be interesting to see how the precinct captains swing, but it seems like the machine, or machine-adjacent, candidates will have a huge advantage in getting out their vote. Another strike for Geoghegan, but you never know.
