Molly Ivins can't die yet, can she?

First Ann Richards, now Molly Ivins. Texas must be running awfully low on audacity right about now. Also grit, spunk, and heart.

"So keep fightin' for freedom and justice, beloveds, but don't you forget to have fun doin' it. Lord, let your laughter ring forth. Be outrageous, ridicule the fraidy-cats, rejoice in all the oddities that freedom can produce. And when you get through kickin' ass and celebratin' the sheer joy of a good fight, be sure to tell those who come after how much fun it was."

I think Dubya had both her and Ann Richards rubbed out. Radiation poisoning.

You have to give it to W for issuing a very nice statement mourning her death, though:

I can't believe W. said anything nice about her. But I guess his press agents actually made the statement, not him.

What a great lady and hopefully a role model. We need people like Molly, truly need them.

One less reason to read the Chicago Tribune.

Shrub was one of the handful of books I've read in my life that I could not put down. When co-best friend called to tell me about her death, I had to remind him that I still had his copy of Shrub. He approved because I've lent it to several people.

I had a huge crush on Ann Richards, starting from when I saw her speech in the 1992 Democratic Convention. I'm glad that she dealt with her drinking issue, but man, I'd have liked to have taken her out for a drink.

I am saddened by this news. (and it was news to me, didn't know)
