HATRED and scorn for those…who hold a position different from our own, can never be justified. It is only as we approach our problems in a spirit of mutual respect of charity, and of good will that we can hope to understand one another, and to find the way to a cooperative solution of our problems. God is no respector of persons. Every human personality is precious in His sight. No policy which seeks to keep any man from developing fully every capacity of body, mind and of spirit can be justified in light of Scripture. This is the message of the Hebrew prophets as it is of Christ and His disciples. We shall solve our difficulties when we learn to walk in obedience to the Golden Rule: "Therefore, all things, whatsoever you would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them for this is the law and the prophets.
Impressive.
The only problem is, it was written 50 years ago.
It was written and signed by a group of white ministers as a response to the violence surrounding the impending integration of schools throughout the south.
So here’s what I’m thinking: If only Christian ministers of all persuasions would urge the same kind of tolerance toward the rights of gay people. Think what could be accomplished.
Perhaps we wouldn’t use the Bible as an excuse to oppress homosexuals anymore. Perhaps we would begin to understand that the realization of civil rights for all people makes us all happier and more peaceful. Perhaps we wouldn’t have to pander to the homo haters in order to appear more acceptable to the so-called “normal” people.
And yes, I’m looking at you, Obama. You’ve said that the black community must confront its homophobia. This seems to me more along the line of kissing homophobia’s ass.

I really am surprised by this Obama mistake. I think it's a big one.
"And the home of the brave". I am really getting sick of all the pussy footing from the Democrats. Formulate a clear decisive message that is going to piss some homophobes off. Tell them they have lost there way from the message of Christianity, "all gods children, etc. etc." Show them how embracing a differnt attitude can open their hearts and minds and allow them to live better lives and make the world a better place. Preach to them. Tell them they are wrong. They need to repent. Shove the message in their faces and challenge them to reveal their fears and hatreds.
Time to take off the gloves. Attack the Republicans, leave Hillary alone.
I hardly know what to say to this kind of behavior from the democrats any more. I was ready to slap Al Gore's silly little face when he spouted all that marriage crap back in '00. This notion that a candidate can't win without a little gay bashing makes me very depressed.

There isn't a single politician out there that interests me any more. I really don't know what direction this country is going to take.
I'm with Dad--it's time for these dems to grow a set and just tell the reich-wingers off. As soon as someone does that, the reich will begin to lose its power, and maybe (MAYBE) we'll start to pull this country out of the ditch. Otherwise, our downward slide into fascism will continue.
I so love to stop by "Bells On" for this very reason. I agree with you whole-heartedly. Not only that but your writing leaves me "fired up" in a way no radio, tv, or personality does. Hell Lady, you make me want to be a better person.

I think Obama is showing himself to be less than the savior that so many hopeful (desperately so) Democrats thought him to be.

Dad: I agree, I agree, I agree, but once a candidate starts to actually have something to lose...then it always become a whole different game. I think you have to approach running for president like you do buying a car: always be willing to walk away.
CP: It's a tough call. Do you vote for a guy who plays footsie with the anti-gay-rights majority because you have faith that he will over the course of his tenure advance your cause, however incrementally or stealthily, or do you insist that a candidate take the colossal chance of openly supporting what is now an unpopular position, because it is the right thing to do? We know which kind of president history will look favorably upon, but they have to get elected first, don't they?
