Tubular

You know folks, there are certain milestones to living in LA: your first martini at Musso and Frank; puking on that smelly ferry to Catalina; trying to park your car on a 45 degree incline with a four inch cushion in Silverlake; motoring through the illegal fireworks gauntlet in Echo Park on the 4th of July; spotting Angelyne or Dennis Woodruff tooling Hollywood Boulevard; sushi food poisoning; watching Marty and Elayne at the Dresden; driving your beater until it literally falls apart on the 405; spending half your paycheck for a table at some lame club on the Strip...

...and spotting Ed Begley Jr. in his cute little electric car. Which is what happened to me on the way to work this morning.

God bless Ed Begley Jr.

Most of the stuff I recognize about LA comes from Tom Waits "Nighthawks At The Diner". Whenever someone mentions something in LA, no matter what, I ask, "Oh, is that on La Cienega?" Only because he mentioned it so often. Eating at Norm's was special thanks to him.

Congratulations. Is he still a celebrity?

That guy is so proud of his electric car, like he is still the only person to own and drive one. And yeah, i think he needs to have the celebrity title revoked

Chris: La Cienega is a good one for that. In the valley, it's Magnolia. Not as LA-sounding, but resonant enough that PT Anderson used it for the name of his 2nd movie that takes place in the valley.

Grant & Slinger: I tried to find this clip from The Simpsons online but couldn't: Ed Begley Jr. shows Homer a car and says that it "runs on his own sense of self-satisfaction." Then he gets in the car, and it takes off like a bat out of hell. Very funny.
