Guilty, baby!

Ken Lay - ALL SIX COUNTS!
Skilling - 19 of 28 counts

CNN:

Skilling was found guilty on 20 counts of conspiracy, fraud, false statements and insider trading. He was found not guilty on eight counts of insider trading.

Lay was found guilty on all six counts of conspiracy and fraud.

In a separate bench trial, Judge Sim Lake ruled Lay was guilty of four counts of fraud and false statements.

Both Lay and Skilling could face 20 to 30 years in prison, legal experts say.

Sentencing was set for the week of Sept. 11.

Granted I'm not all up on the legal system, but how come they're found guilty and then they go home for 4 months and THEN go to get sentenced & go to jail? Um, they're guilty. Should they be in jail? If it were some black guy caught with drugs, they wouldn't be all "Come back in 4 months to find out about your jail sentence!"

Do I have this wrong?

I believe you can request to post bail until you are sentenced. A judge is unlikely to grant the request in most cases, but the time spent waiting for sentencing is counted as time served for the sentence.

So yeah, it is perhaps a perk for being a rich and famous criminal, but on the other hand, you are delaying your eventual release.

That's my understanding. Feel free to correct me, readers.
