Killing you is killing myself. But, you know, I'm pretty tired of both of us.

On the 3 suicides committed by Gitmo prisoners this last Saturday (link added):

"They are smart, they are creative, they are committed," Admiral Harris said. "They have no regard for life, neither ours nor their own. I believe this was not an act of desperation, but an act of asymmetrical warfare waged against us."

Oh, be careful Admiral. You don't want to venture into Westmoreland:

"The Oriental doesn't put the same high price on life as does a Westerner. Life is plentiful. Life is cheap in the Orient."

It makes it easier to do what we wish with people, believing that they don't value life the same way we do.

It makes it a lot easier.

Did you happen to catch the Gitmo piece on the Diane Rehm
Show this morning? They had some dude on there talking about how being the treatment of the prisoners there is actually pretty cushy. . .

Great. Yet another month of hiding indoors and speaking in a fake British accent so as to avoid the wrath of the rest of the world.

'Preciate it, guys.

I'm not sure what kind of "treatment" that dude was talking about, but if he meant that men are being held and questioned/tortured for years without being charged and with no information about whether they will EVER be tried or released, then I'd say that was pretty fucking brutal.

Sorry. . .I didn't mean to suggest he might be on to something. I thought it was understood that he was some kind of whack-job.

Suicide has long been used as a tactic to call attention to brutality, injustice and hopeless conditions. It's working in this case, and I am saddened by the fact that this time it is my country being exposed. Give us a break, Admiral. These guys are dead.

Great post. From the day they opened that hellhole, it was clear that they never would be able to find a face-saving way to close it. No matter how bad things get, they keep rationalizing: "Hey, we're fighting a war here -- you have a problem with that? Don't you know they don't value human life as much as we do?" As long as they control Congress and the White House, this obscene fiasco will continue -- Kafka on steroids. It's another reason the fall election is so important.
