Make Room for Daddy

Roberts and Alito get confirmed, and suddenly the blue states stage an abortion rights "rush to the bottom."

South Dakota is seeking to ban abortions.

Mississippi is jumping on that bandwagon.

But for sheer vileness, it's hard to beat what's happening in Utah (from Feministing):

The Salt Lake Tribune reports that Utah lawmakers have refused to make an exception for incest victims seeking abortions in a parental consent and notification law. Lovely.

The bill would allow girls to ask a judge to bypass the parental consent requirement if she fears abuse or is pregnant as a result of incest. At the same time, the legislation still would require a doctor to notify a girl's parents of the abortion, effectively nullifying the judicial bypass.

So much for protecting victims of assault. This law is really about punishing young women for having sex. The bill’s proponents admit as much. Republican Sen. Chris Buttars said, “Abortion isn't about women's rights. The rights they had were when they made the decision to have sex...This is the consequences. The consequence is they should have to talk to their parents.”

I know. It's hard to imagine that anyone, let alone someone who holds a statewide office (albeit in Utah) could be so fucking stupid.

And that he's so not afraid to hoist his big, shiny, hard hatred of women up on flag and wave it around like that. Amazing.

Scary times we live in, folks.

Why is it the government ( ie right wing christian evil men ) only care about punshing females for having sex and being implanted with a fetus? What punshiment do the irresponsible males get? None !! It seems to be all right for males to have sex and make babys anonymously with no consequences....

It's an old axiom, and yet it rings true: If men got pregnant, abortions would not only be safe and legal, they'd be available on every streetcorner.

Not only that, but tampons would be free in public restrooms.
